Simbarashe Mabasha & Simukayi Mukuna — co-founders of video streaming service Wabona — sat down with AFKInsider’s Francois Gerke in Cape Town, South Africa to discuss the company’s upstart and vision. In part two of the interview, they talk about why content is king, competition and Wabona’s connection to the mobile money revolution.
“We’re not alone in this space, competition is real and we think it’s a good thing for us. We think it’s a good thing for the industry. iROKOtv dominates Nollywood and West African content; Buni [dominates] East African content. We are the south and we dominate Southern African,” Mabasha said.
“It’s in everyone’s best interest to compete. We want to provide a service that is best for the customer and the user. To do that we have to be pushed by our competitors.”
