Wabona Co-Founders on Monetizing the Online Broadcast Market [Part 1 of 2]

Simbarashe Mabasha & Simukayi Mukuna — co-founders of video streaming service Wabona — sat down with AFKInsider’s Francois Gerke in Cape Town, South Africa to discuss the company’s upstart and vision. In part one of the interview, they discuss starting out as a production company, raising capital and the development of broadcast in Africa.

“Wabona is a video streaming service offering content — African movies, TV shows and documentaries — to users in the African diaspora as well as users on the continent. Essentially what we do is split the business into two,” Mukuna said. “The first one is a subscription model….the second is for mobile users.”
