Social media may still be the domain of individuals, but big brands are catching up fast, says Mpumelelo “Fry Pan” Mfula, a Johannesburg entrepreneur who sells lines of clothing online made by South Africans.

Big brands are catching up fast on social media, Fry Pan said. “Now they’re using us to tweet about them,” he said. “We have a window (of opportunity) to take back our culture. We have the ability to take that all back and own culture.”

Frypan spoke to AFKInsider at Social Media Week, underway in Johannesburg.
