African countries have long been recipients of international aid, with billions of dollars pouring into the continent every year to promote economic development and welfare. The following African countries received the most official development assistance and official aid in 2012, according to the World Bank. These consisted of loans with a grant element of at least 25 percent, and were calculated according to net official aid, meaning net of repayments from official donors to countries.
