Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto – $10 million

Basketball superstar Michael Jordan didn’t stint on his wedding to Yvette Prieto. It was his second wedding, and money was no object. Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian – $10.3 million

The media attention surrounding Kim and Kris’s wedding lasted longer than the marriage, which clocked in at 72 days. But what a wedding it was. Three designer dresses, $10,000  spent on invitations, more than $2-million on flowers, and a jaw-dropping $2.5 million diamond headdress. These were just the start of this pricey affair. The whole thing was documented on a four-hour reality TV special.

British billionaire businessman and collector James Stunt wed heiress Petra Eccelstone in a flashy affair in October 2011, held at Odescalchi Castle, near Rome. Andrey Melnichenko and Aleksandra Kokotovich – $29 million

Russian businessman and billionaire Andrey Melnichenko married former Serbian model and pop singer Aleksandra Kokotovich in Côte d’Azur, France, in 2005. When you’re the ninth richest man in Russia, money isn’t really an object, so why not have Whitney Houston, Julio Iglesias, and Christina Aguilera perform?

Prince William and Kate Middleton – $34 million

England’s sweethearts, Will and Kate, got married with the entire world watching back in April 2011, but it wasn’t the $80,000 wedding cake, or even the $800,000 in flowers that upped the bill for the event. An estimated $32 million was spent on security for the day, with burly men hired to keep an eye on bystanders, manage crowds and keep the future king and queen of England safe.

Prince Charles and Lady Diana – $51.5 million

The “wedding of the century” had to go to Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. But once again, the immense security needed for the event sent the price tag skyrocketing, with thousands of police and armed forces lining the streets. Not to mention the 27 wedding cakes, thousands of pearls hand-sewn into Diana’s gown, and the cost of cleaning the streets after more than 600,000 people lined them and waited for hours to watch the royal couple proceed to their nuptials through the streets of London.

Amit Bhatia and Vanisha Mittal – $58 million

Investment banker Amit Bhatia married Vanisha Mittal, daughter of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, in an elaborate ceremony in 2004. The five-day event was held in a 16th century chateau in Versailles. The couple even had a temporary wooden castle built for the ceremony. The bill went up even more thanks to entertainment by Kylie Minogue, along with wedding invitations that were mailed in real silver boxes.

Seemanto Roy and Chandni Toor/Sushanto Roy and Richa Roy – $123 million

Though it was a double wedding, and the bill may have been split four ways, the ceremonies for Seemanto Roy and Chandni Toor and Sushanto Roy and Richa Roy racked up some of the highest costs in wedding history. The father of the grooms — Indian industrialist Subrata Roy of Sahara — picked up most of the tab (given his net worth of $5 billion-plus, it didn’t hurt the bank too much). The wedding feast included more than 100 different entrees, music by the British Symphony Orchestra, a wedding video filmed by famed Bollywood director Raj Kumar, and more.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum – $137 million

Prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and king of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum married his senior wife, Sheika Hind Bint Maktoum, in 1979 in possibly the most lavish wedding ceremony of all time. A massive hall was built from scratch in Dubai to accommodate more than 20,000 guests, and a five-day holiday was declared for the event. The sheikh rode his horse into all the villages in Dubai and passed around food to everyone, undoubtedly contributing to the cost of the event.
