French Toast Crunch
Children of the ’90s remember that if they were craving French toast but mom wasn’t home to make it, they could just pour themselves a bowl of adorable, tiny French toast-shaped-cereal from General Mills. Petitions have circulated to bring the cereal back, including one from Change.org.
These were sort of like Bugle-Chex cereal hybrids, but with all the great flavors of Doritos. They were trouble for snack addicts, but they were so, so good. And they came in nifty tubes similar to Pringles tubes. At Petitiononline.com, you can sign a petition to bring the fun snacks back.
Plenty of other snack brands try to recreate the snack, but fans say nothing puffy and cheesy has ever come close to the authentic, sharp cheddar flavor of Planters Cheez Balls — and that perfect, crispy crunch. There are several online forums where fans of the snack share secret resources to track it down, like Chow.com.
Milanos have nothing on these little treats: vanilla shortbread cookies with a chocolatey, creamy filling. The filling flavor resembled that of Cadbury eggs, to give you some idea of how great it was. The treat was featured in a SeriousEats.com article featuring nostalgic foods the public wants back.
Imagine being able to eat miniature Oreos for breakfast? You already dunk the full-sized versions into milk so it makes perfect sense! But apparently Post didn’t think so, and took the cereal off the shelves in 1997. Oreo O’s is another food with its own petition on Change.org with fans asking for the sweet cereal to come back!
You usually have to break wide chicken tenders into smaller pieces to be able to dunk them into those small sauce boxes, but then you don’t have that delicious batter around every bite. With the chicken fries, you could dunk your snack easily without breaking it up. But Burger King discontinued these in 2012. There are online petitions asking for the fries to come back, and there is also a Twitter handle dedicated to them: @TheChickenFries.
Imagine the creamy goodness of Jello pudding, frozen and on a stick. These were a nice break from all the fruity, high-syrup popsicles in the ’90s. But unfortunately, you’ll have to try and make your own now if you crave them. Several online forums have published petitions to bring back pudding pops, including ipetitions.com.
For lovers of authentic Mexican food, there was actually a Taco Bell menu up to standard for a while: the spicy chicken burrito, with a red-hot jalapeno sauce that made the chicken extra juicy. For a while there was just the regular grilled chicken burrito, but the public was pretty excited when a nod to the spicy chicken burrito was recently released, as reviewed on ToplessRobot.com.
Sure, there was a much higher-than-usual fried-batter-to-chicken ratio in these oh-so-snackable treats, but who cares? They were delicious. And they fit into the tiny sauce boxes perfectly. There are three Facebook pages dedicated to bringing back popcorn chicken, including Facebook.com/pages/Bring-Popcorn-Chicken-Back.
Available for just one year between 1988 and 1989, this coffee-flavored ice cream included amaretto, Jack Daniels whiskey and roasted almonds. Topped with some hot chocolate sauce, it was heavenly. The ice cream was featured in a MentalFloss.com article about 10 Ben & Jerry’s flavors that disappeared too soon.
