Norwegian Epic

This is Norwegian Cruise Line’s “party” ship, designed to feel like a Las Vegas casino. And, like any great casino, it has several hot dining spots — more than a dozen in fact. At Teppanyaki, diners sit around a large bibachi grill and watch a chef put on a show while making great steaks and seafood. For serious carnivores, there is the Moderno Churrascaria where you can enjoy almost endless samples of barbecued meats carved tableside. And then there is the magical Spiegel Tent where guests enjoy a fixed menu of salad, chicken or steak and dessert, along with Cirque de Soleil-type entertainment.

Oasis of the Seas

This Royal Caribbean Cruise ship has a whopping 25 dining establishments. That’s far too many to detail here but some standout options are 150 Central Park, serving six-course menus of locally-sourced cuisine; Portofino serving up delicious antipasto, tiramisu and other classic Italian favorites; Seafood Shack that lives up to its name with delicious crab cakes, coconut shrimp and fresh-off-the-hook fish; and the Cupcake Cupboard — a gourmet cupcake shop.

Viking’s European Sojourn

On this Holland-to-Romania tour, the ship stops at nine countries where there are several food-centric activities, including a strudel-making class in Austria and genever tasting in Holland. Genever is Dutch for juniper, but more importantly, in this context it means gin.

Tere Moana

The consulting chef on this new Paul Gauguin Cruises ship is Jean-Pierre Vigato, who holds two Michelin stars for his Paris restaurant Apicius. So, naturally, the onboard food is phenomenal. This is another cruise that makes a lot of great food stops. Because it’s a small ship, it can stop at several incredible wineries that larger ships can’t access, where great vintages are paired with tasting menus. The Tere Moana was built in France and is registered in the Bahamas.
