Mark Walton of Onyx Global Marketing on Starting SMEs in Africa [Part 1 of 3]

Mark Walton, managing director of media consulting firm Onyx Global Marketing recently stopped by our studio to discuss transitioning and connecting businesses to Africa, finding an industry niche and scouting resources from abroad. In part one of the interview, he talks about his start as an Africa expert and creating a business within an already established sector.

“There’s now been a move to try to develop business — people from The States going to the continent. Bob Johnson from BET actually built a hotel in Liberia,” Walton explained.

“People now are thinking, ‘I’m not of that caliber, how could I begin to think about doing a business like that there?’ I say if Bob Johnson built the hotel, somebody’s got to then create the cab service that takes you from the hotel back to the airport. It really is a brick and mortar environment.”
