10 Totally Holiday-Worthy Recipes From Tre Wilcox

10 Totally Holiday-Worthy Recipes From Tre Wilcox

1 of 11

Tre Wilcox became a household name after his appearance on “Top Chef: Miami” in 2007, but his culinary career began long before that. Wilcox began working in restaurants at 17, and eventually found himself cooking for Toscana, (a famous South Florida restaurant) and the internationally praised Abacus in Dallas. The James Beard Foundation named Wilcox Rising Star Chef two years in a row and we feel pretty safe putting our holiday meal in his hands. Here are 10 Wilcox holiday creations that deserve a place at your table.

Grilled Lamb Loin on Portobello Mushroom Risotto

A great alternative when you’ve had enough honey-baked ham and turke, this dish is hearty, full of flavor and has a few surprise ingredients. Tre cooks it with his daughter —who loves to grill — around the holidays. See the recipe here.

Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp with Cheese Grits and Chipotle-Tomato Butter Sauce

If you’re serving pescatarians, or just want to switch things up, this seafood dish comes with all the warmth and comfort you’d want of a holiday dish, not to mention the gorgeous colors. Plus, how can you resist anything that’s bacon-wrapped? See the recipe here.

Cornbread-Dressing

Wilcox prepared this award-winning dressing on “Top Chef,” and it’s such a unique use of the holiday staple, cornbread. You’ll love the little kick from the jalapeños, and the smokiness from the applewood smoked bacon. Use it in place of gravy, or even toss it on a salad. See the recipe here.

Crispy Confit Chicken Legs

This recipe might actually get the kids at your holiday table to eat gourmet. If you’re a big fan of the turducken, then you’ll love this creative use of chicken and duck. The chicken bakes in duck fat, giving it an outrageously succulent flavor. It comes out fried, so it’s almost a fancy version of fried chicken, but so much better. See the recipe here.

Smoked Cheddar-Jalapeno Bread Pudding

Chef Wilcox may have been sent home for below-standard bread pudding on “Top Chef,” but he more than made up for it when he created this mind-blowing spin on the usual gooey and soothing dessert. See the recipe here.

Spice-Rubbed Chicken Thighs

This is one of Wilcox’s signature dishes. We love that he makes an underutilized part of the chicken so delicious. The tomato and red wine sauce is deeply satisfying, and the herbs are stunning. See the recipe here.

Lemon Curd-Filled Beignets

We couldn’t track down Wilcox’s own special recipe — he’s probably keeping it a secret since it was served up for brunch at the Village Marquee Texas Grill. But this recipe looks to come pretty close. The lemon is such a pleasant and refreshing flavor next to all the heavy desserts at holiday meals. See the recipe here.

Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes

This is another delight out of the Village Marquee Texas Grill, where Wilcox did a lot of great things with citrus. Serve this up Christmas morning before opening presents, and the kids will actually want breakfast. Here’s the closest rendition we could find. See the recipe here.
