When the Trump team announced it was working with hip-hop mogul Ice Cube, his fans and the like went into a frenzy online, but the news shouldn’t have been much of a surprise.

In September, Cube — who has been promoting his reparations plan, “Contract with Black America” — revealed that both the Trump and Biden campaigns had reached out to him.

Turns out, according to Cube, Trump’s camp wanted Cube’s help in framing its own plan for Black America, which was unveiled as the “Platinum Plan.” Biden’s people said they would set something up with Cube after the election.

The news that Ice Cube is working with the White House came from senior MAGA advisor Katrina Pierson, who tweeted that Cube had “stepped up” to develop Trump’s “Platinum Plan.”

“Shoutout to @icecube for his willingness to step up and work with @realDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan ICYMI,” Pierson tweeted. “Leaders gonna lead, haters gonna hate. Thank you for leading!”

Released earlier this month, the plan purportedly dovetails with Cube’s own Contract with Black America (CWBA), TMZ reported. Biden debuted “Lift Every Voice: The Biden Plan For Black America” in July.

Following Pierson’s tweet, Cube was forced this week to address the backlash and clarify his work with Trump.

He tweeted on Oct. 14, “Facts: I put out the CWBA. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA.”

When one Twitter user accused him of going over to “the dark side,” Cube shot back that all politicians are pretty much on the dark side when it comes to helping African-Americans.

Danny Morrison Media @dannymoshow tweeted, “My Hip-Hop HERO @icecube is working with the Darkside. I haven’t felt this low since Kobe passed. HEARTBREAKING. Cube, I’m not sure you understand how much we value your voice. And when we see you ‘jumping the shark,’ it KILLS us. Especially in 2020”.

Cube replied, “Every side is the Darkside for us here in America. They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”

The Democrats appear to be surprised at the Trump-Cube connection, even though Biden’s campaign put him off. Trump’s people seemed to have moved faster.

So are the “top-heavy” corporate Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer the only ones allowed to talk to Trump? Not potential voters like Ice Cube? Some might say the Dems are once again assuming they have a lock on the Black vote.

Moguldom Nation founder Jamarlin Martin tweeted, “Ice Cube is moving like a free man. Nancy Pelosi & Schumer don’t represent Ice Cube, if he wants to go talk to the MAGA Pharoah, SO WHAT. Let me guess, Ice Cube is not Black b/c he doesn’t follow the political monopoly & orthodoxy of Pelosi, Schumer, MSNBC, & Obama. A cult.”

Other Twitter users see Cube’s move as strategic.

“Cube is being pragmatic. I’m not voting for Trump, but truth is Trump HAS done SOME beneficial things for the Black community. Why? Not cause he’s a hero. Because it was in his interest. But that’s politics. Cube is seeing it for what it is. Using his leverage when it counts” John Wood, Jr. tweeted.

Some are questioning the timing of Cube’s move. Hip-hop writer Alvin aqua Blanco tweeted, “Putting children in cages, letting 200K+ people die, inspiring White Supremacy, brazenly cheating at everything, basically saying ‘whatevs’ to Black Lives Matter…none of that is negotiable.”

Cube forewarned his followers that he would be dealing with both parties. In an Oct. 11 Instagram video, the 51-year-old artist explained why he decided to get involved in politics. In the clip, Cube said he did not align himself with the Democrat or Republican party, but said he had been in contact with both to address “real issues,” XXL reported.

He discusses the Democratic Party’s sneaky relationship with the police in cities and states under Dem control, and why Joe Biden is a cop and the Steve Jobs of mass incarceration.

“I’ve been making contacts trying to talk about these real issues. Straight up, I believe the Democrats have… they’ve been nice,” Cube said. “They’ve been cordial, so to speak. I don’t really see them pushing their policies in any different direction. They’re still talking this ‘minority, minority, people-of-color’ shit that don’t necessarily include us. That don’t necessarily include Black Americans, especially descendants of slaves.”
