It’s been a rough seven months for legendary hip-hop artist Scarface. Back in March he revealed he had contracted covid-19. The virus severely damaged his kidneys and now the Geto Boys co-founder is in need of a kidney. And he has turned to social media for help, HipHopDX reported.

On October 7, Scarface, 49, tweeted: “I need a kidney y’all,” he wrote. “any volunteers? B+ blood type.”

The tweet got a lot of responses, incredibly many of them making light of the situation or trying to take advantage of it.

thebadgalmel @blabusbadgalmel tweeted: “Volunteer? As in give it to you for free? I have B+. But ima need some compensation.. major compensation.”

Cor-Po-Rate BadMan Boy_Blinkzy tweeted: “I’m B+ but are you willing to pay 100m naira ?Hit me up when you’re in”

seɹeue OUT NOW @othasydemusic tweeted: “I’m B Pos I got you for real. It would be returning the favor. Your music speaks to me more than any artist ever. Learned how to manage depression openly cause of you.”

Others took it seriously and offered help.

When he was first infected with coronavirus, Scarface revealed the medical crisis he was experiencing in an interview with Geto Boys bandmate Willie D.. “This whole three weeks has been an ordeal, Will,” Scarface said at the time. “It’s the craziest shit I’ve ever done and seen in my life. Like I’ve been to the point where I just felt like I was gonna die, bro. I threw up so much until it was just like hot sauce. Like your gases and shit in your stomach, yo acids, it’s hot. I didn’t have no food in my stomach, man. It was just coming up like bile, bro. I couldn’t breathe, Will.”

Wanda LaDawn @WandaLaDawn tweeted: “I’m a 100% serious here… I’m B Positive and if I meet qualifications I would do it! Just heard your story on @breakfastclubam”

In April Scarface suffered kidney failure and was subsequently put on dialysis. “This my new lifeline,” he said, pointing to his dialysis port. “I gotta change my entire diet. I gotta do dialysis four times a week, three hours a day. That’s taking all of my blood out, cleaning it, and putting it back in my body. Before the covid, I never had kidney problems before.”

He confirmed to Fox 5 DC in June that his kidneys never fully recovered and he was still on dialysis.

Listen to GHOGH with Jamarlin Martin | Episode 73: Jamarlin Martin Jamarlin makes the case for why this is a multi-factor rebellion vs. just protests about George Floyd. He discusses the Democratic Party’s sneaky relationship with the police in cities and states under Dem control, and why Joe Biden is a cop and the Steve Jobs of mass incarceration.

“Covid attacked my lungs first, and then it attacked my kidneys and knocked them out,” he told the outlet. “I got full lung recovery, but my kidneys never came back … I’m still a little weak. I don’t have a lot of strength in my legs yet. I still haven’t got full taste back and sense of smell yet. But I am glad to be alive.”

In June 2019, Scarface said he had retired from rap to focus on politics, including a run for Houston City Council, The Fader reported.
