The teen who discovered an abducted girl
When teenager Temar Boggs from Lancaster, Penn. heard that a 5-year-old girl had gone missing, his gut told him he knew where to find her. While a massive police hunt was in action, Temar was on his bicycle riding through cul-de-sacs in his neighborhood. In one, he spotted a maroon car driving strangely. He sped up to ride right beside it and inside saw a girl matching the description of the abducted girl. When the driver saw the boy peering in his car, he stopped, pushed the girl out, and drove off. Shortly after, the girl was reunited with her family.
Teenage siblings save dad stuck under a 3,000-pound tractor
When sisters Hannah and Halyee Smith arrived at their Lebanon, Ore. home one day, they heard a cry for help coming from the back yard. There they found their father who, after trying to pull out a tree stump with a tractor, accidentally flipped the tractor and was caught beneath it. His daughters called 911, but their dad was already struggling to breathe under the pressure of the machine. Together, the two girls lifted the machine just enough for their father to inch his torso out.
Courageous 5-year-olds save siblings from a fire
When Mohd Syawal Mohd Shukri saw smoke rising from the kitchen of his house in Kampung Kubang Depu, Malaysia, he grabbed his 4-year-old brother and rushed to safety. A similar story took place in Hermosillo, Mexico, when 5-year-old Alberto Parra Torres noticed an electrical fire igniting in his house and rushed his 2-year-old and 6-month-old siblings outdoors to safety.
14-year-old swims half a mile to rescue his family
The Snyder family was out for a day of boating on Spring Lake, Mich., when their boat suddenly capsized. Neither parent knew what to do, since they had their 9-month-old daughter with them. Swimming back to shore with her would be impossible. They remained where they were, clinging to the baby and remains of the boat, while their 14-year-old son Jeffrey swam the half mile to shore to get help.
Teen pulls his sisters from a burning van
Klan Cleefman was driving with her five children early one morning in Clinton County, Ind. when she got into a head-on collision with another car. Both cars burst into flames. Klan escaped the car with three of her five children. On fire, she rolled on the ground. Her son Kaleb rescued his two sisters still trapped in the car. The entire Cleefman family survived, but the driver of the other car did not.
Teens on their way to prom save a family
While a group of 20 eager high school students was on the way to prom in a limo, they witnessed a van rolling over on the highway. The limo driver pulled over to help and the students got out to help too. Five adults and two children were rescued from the van and the group was only 15 minutes late to prom.
Teen climbs a ladder to rescue a boy from a fire
Marco and his father Eduardo Ugarte were relaxing in their Troutdale, Ore. home when they heard screaming coming from a house down the street. Marco saw flames coming from the back yard. He and his father rushed over to find a family of five, including a 7-year-old, trapped upstairs. Marco noticed the grandmother pulling out a ladder and went over to help her and took over. He climbed into the house through the second-story window and saved the 7-year-old from the flames.
Norwegian boy saves his sister from a moose
In the countryside of Norway, moose attacks are a real danger. When 12-year-old Hans Jørgen Olsen was walking with his sister in the woods near their house, a moose appeared and attacked the children. This may be the one instance when a video game can be credited for stopping violence. Hans used skills he had learned in “World of Warcraft” to halt the attack. He remembered he should first taunt the animal to distract it, which he did, giving his sister the chance to escape. Next he remembered that in the game sometimes players feign death to make an attacker lose interest, so he lay down and pretended to be dead, at which point the moose walked away.
10-year-old saves grandmother by taking control of the wheel
When 10-year-old Gryffin Sanders was out for a ride with his 74-year-old grandmother, she suddenly stopped speaking in mid sentence and fainted right at the wheel. Gryffin took over and drove the car into a mud-filled ditch, preventing it from veering into oncoming traffic. Gryffin was awarded a medal for his bravery.
5-year-old saves drowning child
When 5-year-old Tiana Evans was in a public pool with her mom in American Fork, Utah, she saw what looked like a little girl trying to grab a floating ball from beneath the surface. She swam closer to find the girl was trying to come up for air. Tiana reached for the girl, let her grasp her hand, and pulled her up, saving her from drowning.
