Former CNN commentator Marc Lamont Hill is being accused by several media outlets of saying that news outlets like NBC and ABC were “Zionist organizations” that produced “Zionist content.” It is alleged he said this during a panel at the annual Netroots Nation summit recently held by progressive activists in Philadelphia.

Brian Brackeen talks about his path to starting Kairos, how blockchain can be applied to the NFL, and whether Disney’s’ “Black Panther” is revolutionary.

Hill took to Twitter to deny saying anything along these lines. He tweeted: “I support Palestinian freedom. I support Palestinian self-determination. I am deeply critical of Israeli policy and practice. I do not support anti-Semitism, killing Jewish people, or any of the other things attributed to my speech. I have spent my life fighting these things.”

Hill currently hosts BET News and is the Steve Charles Professor of Media, Cities, and Solutions at Temple University. Hill lost his post at CNN less than a year ago after he called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea,” during an appearance at the U.N. Some interpreted the statement as a call for the elimination of Israel. Hill denied this is what he meant.

The Jewish Insider reported Hill said during the Netroots Nation summit: “They’re like, I want to work for Fox, or I want to work for ABC or NBC or whoever. I want to tell these stories,” he said. “You have to make choices about where you want to work. And if you work for a Zionist organization, you’re going to get Zionist content. And no matter how vigorous you are in the newsroom, there are going to be two, three, four, 17, or maybe one powerful person — not going to suggest a conspiracy — all news outlets have a point of view. And if your point of view competes with the point of view of the institution, you’re going to have challenges.”

Netroots Nation describes itself as “the largest annual conference for progressives” and over the years Democratic presidential hopefuls have stopped in. This year, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Governor Jay Inslee of Washington and former HUD Secretary Julian Castro spoke at the summit.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) have appeared at the summit in past years.
