Director Of Iowa Human Services Agency Fired After E-Mailing Tupac Lyrics To 4,300 Employees

Written by Isheka N. Harrison

The former director of Iowa’s Department of Human Services Jerry Foxhoven, 66, is reportedly without a job for possibly loving the late, great hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur too much.

Foxhaven was known for sending messages to his employees celebrating Pac’s music and lyrics, according to The Associated Press (AP). He even hosted weekly “Tupac Fridays” and marked his 65th birthday with Pac-themed cookies touting the beloved artist’s infamous slogan “Thug Life.”

But when Foxhaven sent an email including Pac lyrics to all 4,300 of his employees that seemed to be the final straw. He was asked to resign the following workday by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.

While The Hill notes it wasn’t clear whether Reynolds’ decision was a direct result of Foxhaven’s Tupac fandom, the governor’s office has refused to release the reason they let the director go. They did, however, release over 350 pages of emails from Foxhaven that included references to the Tupac.

Jamarlin talks to Devin Johnson, the president of Uninterrupted. They discuss his career path and working with Lebron James, changes in the media industry, and whether Spotify targeted Black artists with policy changes.

At least one of Foxhaven’s employees complained to lawmakers about his Tupac fixation, AP reported. However, others praised him for using the rapper’s work to lighten up a stressful work environment.

“I love your 2pac messages … and the fact that you still send them (despite the haters) makes me appreciate them even more,” wrote employee Lisa Bender.

Foxhaven has said he doesn’t think his love forPac is what got him fired. However, before losing his job, he said he will continue to celebrate Tupac and use him to inspire others in his response to Bender.

“I agree totally. I am going to hang in there on him — despite all of the naysayers,” Foxhoven wrote.

If Foxhaven reads these, here are some timeless words from Pac:

“Never surrender, it’s all about the faith you’ve got
Don’t ever stop, just push it til you hit the top
And if you drop, at least you know you gave your all
Be true to you, and that way you can never fall … “

Keep ya’ head up Jerry!
