What makes an employee happy? Is it the chance to pursue a dream? To make a lot of money? To be in a position of power? According to findings from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, it has to do with a sense of job and financial stability, plus a feeling of being competent. Here are the 10 countries with the happiest employees.

Denmark

Denmark has an employment rate of 73 percent. Seventy-one percent of working individuals report being in good health. Only 1.92 percent complain of working long hours and the average worker has a disposable income of $23,213.

Norway

Norway experiences a remarkably high employment rate of 75 percent, and actively employed individuals report an 80 percent rate of feeling in good health. A little more than 2 percent of employed people work long hours, and the average disposable income is $30,465.

Netherlands

Netherlands ties with Norway in employment rate at 75 percent. The rate of self-reported individuals in good health is 77 percent and the rate of those working extended hours is very low, at 0.68 percent. The average employed person has a disposable income of $25,740.

Switzerland

Switzerland enjoys the highest employment rate on this list, at 79 percent. Self-reported good health from working people is also notably high, at 87 percent. However, the percentage of workers who report working too many hours is also high, at 5.87 percent. The average disposable income is $27,756.

Austria

The land that gave California a governor has an employment rate of 72 percent. Those reporting being in good health come in a bit lower than others on this list at 69 percent and the rate of employees working long hours is one of the highest at 9.02 percent. Average disposable income is $27,541.

Israel has one of the lower employment rates on this at 60 percent. The rate of self-reported individuals in good health is impressive at 81 percent, but the rate of employees working extended hours is notably high, at 18.92 percent.

Finland

Finland has an employment rate of 68 percent, and its rate of self-reported employees in good health is also 68 percent. Number of workers subject to long hours is low at 3.66 percent. Disposable income averages about $24,958.

The country with one of the cheeriest dispositions has an employment rate of 72 perent and an impressive rate of those in good health, at 85 percent. The number of employees working long hours is also high though, at 13.99 percent. Disposable income is around $26,927.

Canada

Canada enjoys a much higher employment rate than its U.S. neighbor to the South, at 72 percent. Self-reported individuals in good health is one of the highest, at 88 percent and the number of workers on the clock for long hours is low, at 3.91 percent. Average disposable income is $27,138.

The most peaceful country experiences an employment rate of 73 percent, and a self-reported good health rate of 79 percent. The rate of workers subject to long hours is remarkably low, at 1.28 percent. Average disposable income is $26,633.
