Exercise Fads That May Be Worth A Try

Exercise Fads That May Be Worth A Try

3 of 11

Everybody wants a rock-hard beach body, but not everyone has the drive to hit the gym every day. Plus, it can get dull doing push-ups and sit-ups while all of the muscleheads around you pump iron and grunt. Luckily, there are other options out there that, while they might not be the absolute best way to sculp your bod, are at least more fun. They will help build your confidence alongside your muscles, because if you do these in public, you are one shameless individual.

Prancercise
Prancercise creator, Joanna Rohrback, defines it as “a springy, rhythmic way of moving forward, similar to a horse’s gait and ideally induced by elation.” And that’s exactly what it is. Rhythmically spring your way into healthy living with the exercise movement that is taking the world by storm (or has at least two-to-four followers). Either way, check out the videos at http://prancercise.com/ because they are just downright magical.

Anything Richard Simmons
King of Fitness Richard Simmons may be the butt of jokes for his spandex-wearing, enthusiasm-pumping ways, but have you seen his butt? His work-out videos get your blood pumping and your muscles working, building your core as you try to hold in the giggles while watching the bedazzled wunderkind go to work.

Kangoo Jumps
Try strapping on these mini-trampolines to the bottom of your feet and see if you can help bouncing your way to more sculpted legs. They work your lower body while you engage in some blood-pumping cardio, plus they just look really fun. There are classes offered all over, but think of the possibilities if you just incorporated the Kangoo into your everyday footwear. Think of the workout, but also the extra inches you’d get to tack onto your height!

Dance Dance Party Party
This women-only class can be replicated for the men, but the main idea stays the same. Turn on some fun dance music and let it rip. No choreographed moves, no trying to follow an instructor, just freestyle letting loose. It’s like getting sweaty in the club, but you’re wearing sneakers instead of heels and don’t have to wait for the bouncer to let you in. Win win.

Knife and Fork Lift
There’s definitely no way this actually works, but it’s awesome. Also it makes you think twice about every bite of food you take, driving home the point that food packs on the pounds! Come to think of it, this may be a better diet trick than exercise, unless you’re working on developing hand strength…

Pole dancing
Everyone and their mother has heard about (but hopefully not tried) pole dancing exercise classes. Despite the stigma, they’re actually a killer work-out and more fun than your standard jog or gym session. Plus it’s an excellent opportunity to break in those heels.

Antigravity yoga
Yoga used to be the new fad, but it’s now faded into a boring old accepted exercise form. Mix it up a bit by trying antigravity yoga, where you do similar poses, but hanging from a hammock attached to the ceiling. Former gymnast Christopher Harrison developed the practice to help with back pain as well as squeeze in some exercise, and it blends yoga techniques with a bit of gymnastics and a decent amount of acrobatics.
