D’Banj
D’Banj is a performer and singer who got his start in the U.K. with the JJC & 419 Squad. D’Banj met Don Jazzy who would later produce several D’Banj records. D’Banj only attended secondary school. When he was 11 years, his mother enrolled him in a military elementary school. He went on to attend the Nigerian Navy Secondary school in Ogun State.
Chidinma Ekile is a famous singer and songwriter who won the third season of MTN Project Fame West Africa. She’s had an incredible journey. Born blind into a family of seven children, Ekile attended primary and secondary school and sang in her church choir. She earned fame long before going to university. She is currently studying Sociology at the University of Lagos and has said in interviews that finishing school has always been a priority, regardless of how well music goes for her.
Hip hop artist 9ICE (born Alexander Abolore Adegbola Adigun Alapomeji Ajifolajifaola) started studying law at Lagos State University, but dropped out to focus on music. He hid his music career from his parents for a year but had been writing songs since he was 14 years old. 9ICE went on to be named the Best Hip Hop Artist at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2008. In he 2014 ran for political office in his native Ogbomosho in Oyo.
Actor Mercy Johnson has appeared in well over 50 films and won the Best Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in 2013. Johnson is married to Prince Odianosen Okojie and together they have three children. Johnson never attended university before becoming famous. She attended the Nigerian Navy Primary School due to her father’s position in the Navy.
Billionaire Cosmas Maduka is the sole distributor of BMW and Ford cars in Nigeria and West Africa. Maduka didn’t finish elementary school. He became an apprentice at the age of 7 after his father died. Maduka worked for his uncle as a child and had to spend nights in the auto shop where they did business.
Performer Wizkid has been singing since he was 11 years old. The music sensation has won seven awards including Ghana Music Awards African Artist of the Year in 2013 and the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards Best International Act Africa in 2012. Wizkid was expelled from his secondary school, and later dropped out of Lead City University to pursue music.
