1 of 9

Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco has been described as one of the most beautiful first ladies in the world and caught the attention of fashion blogs for her style, which is traditional with a youthful twist. The princess is vocal about important causes, and even blazed new trails for first ladies to come. Her husband, King Muḥammad VI, expanded the powers of the prime minister and parliament in 2011 but preserved his role as the final authority in all areas of government. The new constitution gave him exclusive control over religious affairs, security, and strategic policy. Voters approved the new constitution in a referendum but critics say it did too little to democratize the political system.
