Coworking is a style of work whereby professionals from different fields, organizations and backgrounds share a working environment. Africa is experiencing fast growth in co-working communities as its millions of young professionals fit into the global digital market.

A number of  coworking spaces, mainly targeting a growing tech community on the continent, have come up in the major cities. Here are 10 top coworking spaces around in Africa;

Jokkolabs – Francophone Africa

It is a non-profit organization with co-working spaces in France, Mali, Burkina Faso and Senegal. Jokkolabs has a staff of volunteers and professionals from all over the world. It has key emphasis to entrepreneurs, creators and innovators in health, governance, media, technology and agriculture sectors. It serves the French-speaking countries.

MTechHub – Democratic Republic of Congo

It was started in April, 2015, by Filip Kabeya. MTechHub serves to create a collaborating and interacting space for Information technology professionals in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It also offers a working platform for digital freelancers.

iHub – Kenya

It was founded in March 2010 by Erik Hersman. Innovation Hub provides a great working environment for hackers, technology companies, young entrepreneurs, investors and other players in the technology industry. It has several initiatives that include iHub Research, iHub Consulting and the iHub User Experience Lab.

It has headquarters in Johannesburg. Impact Hub is spread across the world in over 77 cities. It is both an innovation and a business incubator which enables its members to share and benefit from the opportunities and resources, from the global community of Impact Hub.

Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) – Egypt

It is an initiative of the Egyptian government, with emphasis on supporting entrepreneurship projects and innovations of the country’s youth. It offers working space for young entrepreneurs and also seminars for skills training in the legal, cloud computing, finance and business plan development. It offers members an unlimited access to Nokia and Blackberry mobile labs. TIEC also creates a meeting point for young entrepreneurs and key investors.

The Office – Rwanda

It was started by Jon Stever in October 2012. The Office is a community workspace that brings together creative innovators, freelancers, startups and entrepreneurs in Rwanda. It helps grow entrepreneurs through leadership training sessions. The Office partnered with Ejo Partners, a consultancy firm, to help entrepreneurs get capital for their projects.

iSpace Foundation – Ghana

It was founded in 2013 by Josiah Kwesi Eyison and Fiifi Baidoo, with support from Google, Indigo Trust and Hivos. It enjoys international funding from the Netherland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It provides startup businesses and entrepreneurs with virtual office facilities, rental space for launching of products and training sessions and other activities in the technology sector. The iSpace Foundation also supports Ghanaian entrepreneurs and innovators who develop technologies that are targeted for the global market.

Iceaddis – Ethiopia

It was the first co-working space in Ethiopia. Iceaddis was founded in May 2011. It supports young and innovative entrepreneurs in technology and enables interaction between investors and other players in the creative industries. It is a great platform for startup founders and university graduates to start their careers and also realize their innovations.

Cape Town Office – South Africa

It is found in the eastern part Cape Town. Cape Town Office is surrounded by great eating joints, coffee shops, bars and restaurants which offer great environment to meet colleagues, professionals, clients and friends amongst others. It is the first innovation coworking space in Nigeria. It was started I October 2010 by Femi Longe and Bosun Tijani. Co-Creation Hub offers an opportunity for the government, social entrepreneurs, investors, hackers and technology companies to meet and collectively create solution to the social problems affecting Nigeria. It also enables university graduates to bring together ideas that lead to technological innovations.
