Cote D’Ivoire star player Gervinho picked up an injury during their score draw with Equatorial Guinea in a friendly international at the weekend, and he will now miss three weeks as a result of a hamstring problem, according to his Italian club Roma.

The Elephants drew 1-1 against the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts on Sunday evening, and on 37 minutes Gervinho was forced to leave the pitch with the injury.

Following the Equatorial Guinea match Gervinho immediately travelled back to Italy in order to do the necessary scans and tests to determine the extent of his injury, which has now been revealed as a Grade I hamstring strain.

An official statement from Roma revealed: “Medical tests carried out on Gervinho have revealed a Grade I hamstring strain. The forward, who will begin a recovery program tomorrow [Wednesday], is expected to be out of action for around three weeks.”

With seven goals and four assists to his name during the course of 30 games thus far this season, the skilful Ivorian has been one of the reasons why the Giallorossi find themselves second in the Italian top flight, and he will certainly be missed by coach Rudi Garcia and his team-mates in the next three or four Serie A games.

Having been knocked out of the UEFA Europa League a couple of weeks ago by Fiorentina, the Romans will be focused on the league, and will hope to have their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner back in the first team as soon as he is able to recover.
