Tourism Businesses Feel Pinch As SA Rand Weakens

“This year, they have leveled off; they haven’t increased,” Bill Harrop, Original Balloon Safaris CEO told CCTV Africa about foreign tourists. “Luckily I have a business that is growing and growing nearly all of the time…We are fortunate, but I think some other companies probably have suffered.”

According to CCTV Africa, the Ebola virus was the initial hurdle which caused tourism associations and businesses to accept a decline. Now the weakened rand is tugging harder at the sector in which few enterprises —  like Harrop’s hot air balloon business —  have managed to stay afloat.
