Syracuse University issued a directive to faculty, staff, and students planning university-sponsored travel to any of three West African countries, requiring those planning a trip to notify the provost’s office.
A discussion with the provost’s office personnel will determine whether the planned trip is necessary, the university said in an email. The directive was signed by Eric F. Spina, vice chancellor and provost, and Spiro Tzetzis, medical director of University Health Services.
In the email Spina and Tzetzis cite a Centers for Disease Control level 3 warning, stating that non-essential travel to Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone should be avoided.
The university is also strongly discouraging personal travel to any country the CDC has designated a level 3 country.
