A third installment of the hit action-comedy franchise “Bad Boys 3” was officially announced Thursday by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and their infectious chemistry made Twitter users break out in song.

Sony had already announced that “Bad Boys 3”, aka “Bad Boys For Life”, will be released on Jan. 17, 2020 but it didn’t feel real until Smith and Lawerence confirmed the announcement together, Hailey Gavin reported in Slate.
Smith and Lawrence made movie magic in 1995 with “Bad Boys” and again in 2003 with “Bad Boys II”. They played Miami narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.
Both films were major hits, earning more than $414.7 million combined worldwide at the box office. “Bad Boys 3” will have a budget of more than $100 million, according to THS.
For 15 years, fans hoped for another sequel and there were rumors, but nothing panned out. As recently as 2017, Lawrence said that a third film was unlikely.“I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out,” he told Entertainment Weekly, but he assured fans, “I’m there, I’m ready right now. If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio’s decision,” Slate reported.
Lawrence announced in a 2014 interview with Conan O‘Brien that a sequel was in the works but that didn’t happen. In 2017, Sony removed it from their release lineup altogether, according to Vanity Fair.
Smith was on board long before Martin, The Grio reported.
“Bad Boys” and “Bad Boys II” were directed by Michael Bay, who often allowed Smith and Lawrence to improvise while the cameras were rolling. He’s not returning for No. 3. Belgian filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Black” and “Gangsta”) are directing. Chris Bremner is writing the script.
