Listen to GHOGH with Jamarlin Martin | Episode 14: Barron Channer
Jamarlin continues his talk with real estate investor Barron Channer, founder of Miami -based Woodwater Investments. Barron talks about turning down Harvard Business School, and whether Black-on-Black murders need to be prioritized over police-on-Black murders.
This has been a bad week for Michael Avenatti, the lawyer and possible 2020 presidential candidate who has been described as an “avenging angel rolling grenades into the White House” or — depending on your political party — a carnival barker, publicity hound and creepy porn lawyer.
The celebrity superlawyer got referred for a criminal investigation by the Justice Department relative to the Kavanaugh confirmation, and now he has alienated progressive voters via an interview in Time. “The Avenatti backlash, it seems, has become a bipartisan affair,” Tina Nguyen wrote in Vanity Fair.
You perpetuated a myth of supremacy, do you get that? Do you understand how that makes nonwhite males feel?
Your theory of white male supremacy is easily disproved. Who is a better lawyer, Cochran or Avenatti? A better politician Obama or Avenatti?
I’m furious and disappointed. https://t.co/XugOrhHxBA

Avenatti did an interview with Time in which he was quoted saying that the next Democratic presidential nominee “better be a white male.” Here’s an excerpt from the interview:
The Democrats have not been this powerless since the 1920s, and their members have responded by nominating a historic number of women and people of color for office. But when it comes to the party’s presidential nominee in 2020, Avenatti thinks in different terms. “I think it better be a white male,” he says. He hastens to add that he wishes it weren’t so, but it’s undeniable that people listen to white men more than they do others; it’s why he’s been successful representing Daniels and immigrant mothers, he says. “When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight,” he says. “Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes.”

Avenatti denies saying this or anything like it.
“I never said that, that’s complete bulls**t. That’s my comment, complete bullsh**t,” he told The Daily Caller, Tucker Carlson’s conservative news and opinion website. In May, Avenatti threatened to sue DCNF site for defamation.
Let me be clear: I have consistently called on white males like me to step, take responsibility, and be a part of stoping the sexism and bigotry that other white males engage in. It is especially important for them to call out other white males. I make this pt in my speeches.

Avenatti has a knack for beating Trump at his own game and drawing blood from the president, Politico reported. He predicted that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen would plead guilty and cooperate. That happened. He predicted the deal with his client Stormy Daniels would unravel. That happened.
“He has a particular utility right now, which is, with the people who are furious with Trump, he is the avenging angel,” Democratic strategist David Axelrod said in a Sept. 24 Politico report.
I’m going to need @MichaelAvenatti to come on #RolandMartinUnfiltered to explain this “better be a white male” comment to @TIME. He says he never said it. But he needs to come talk to Black media. I’ve DM’d him. Waiting to hear back. This IS A PROBLEM.

Fast forward a month and Avenatti is sounding a bit like Trump, invoking fake news to deny a media report that makes him look bad.
When asked about who should run, @MichaelAvenatti says: I think it better be a white male…when you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight.
He is no different from Trump, he's just using different a different side to gain power. https://t.co/PmIEeMxH8O

“The case for President Michael Avenatti, put forward by adoring MSNBC moms and vengeful Clintonites, is simple: Democrats need their own Donald Trump, and nobody mimics Trump’s elemental command of media dynamics better than the lawyer who weaponized Stormy Daniels,” Nguyen wrote in Vanity Fair.
Avenatti may have another Trumpian habit of racking up debts and evading responsibility when the bill comes due. On Monday, the Los Angeles-based attorney faced a multi-million-dollar judgment for failing to repay a debt to a former colleague. An hour later, a court order evicted his firm from its Newport Beach offices after not paying rent for four months.
Someone tell Michael Avenatti that the people who received the most votes in U.S. history were not white males.
