Barcelona Decided Against Nabil Bentaleb Move

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique reportedly turned down the opportunity to work out a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur’s Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.

The player formed part of a list of transfer targets put together by Barcelona’s transfer committee, led by former AC Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida, but the current Blaugrana tactician threw out the list and decided to create his own wishlist.

Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the list of transfer targets suggested by the committee included Bentaleb, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Portuguese defender Cedric Soares and Juventus striker Fernando Llorente.

According to the report, Enrique is not happy with a committee making decisions that he believes should be reserved for the coach, and instead of taking the provided list into consideration, he decided that he should be the one to choose his potential future players. Those on his list are believed to be Arda Turan, Denis Suarez and Aleix Vidal.

The 20-year-old midfielder from Algeria is therefore not headed to Spain, and will instead continue his successful time at Tottenham.

The Algerian play-maker signed a new five-year deal to remain at White Hart Lane last week for the long term, ending any speculation concerning the Spanish giants and others.

The deal needed to be signed in order to scare away reported interest from other clubs, including Premier League teams Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Serie A champions Juventus.
