Sulley Muntari Ends AC Milan Spell By Mutual Consent

Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari and Italian Serie A club AC Milan have decided to part ways in a decision that both parties came to an agreement on.

An official statement on the club’s website revealed the split between the player and his club side.

“AC Milan and Sulley Muntari would like to announce they have reached agreement to dissolve the player’s contract with the club as of today,” the statement read.

The club went on to express their gratitude for the Ghanaian player, who played an important part in the club’s midfield over the last few years.

“AC Milan would like to thank Muntari for the commitment and professional attitude shown during his time playing in the Milan shirt and wish him all the very best for the future,” the club added.

A disappointing season with the Rossoneri has seen the Ghanaian kept on the fringes of the struggling club, making only 16 appearances, and despite the fact that his contract still had a year left on it, the San Siro club decided that a mutual split was in order.

The midfielder took part in 83 games for the Rossoneri during his three years at the club, scoring 13 goals. His most prolific season was 2013-14 when he scored five goals in Serie A and one in the UEFA Champions League.

Muntari has been linked with potential transfers to West Ham, Everton and Hull City of late, while the New York Red Bulls have also shown serious interest.

The Ghanaian has often been dogged by controversy, especially at national team level, where he was sent home from the 2014 FIFA World Cup along with Kevin-Prince Boateng due to misbehaviour in camp.
