Southampton Looking At Alex Song Possibility

English Premier League side Southampton are said to be considering the possibility of a permanent deal for Cameroon’s Alexandre Song from his current Spanish club, Barcelona.

According to The Sunday People, The Saints are keen to make a move to bring Song back to the English top flight, and are expected to make an offer to secure his transfer from the newly crowned European champions.

Barca are reported to be interested in the activity, as long as the offer is worth their while. Song will likely consider the move if The Saints improve his annual deal, and if not the Cameroonian will remain in Spain.

The impending departure of Morgan Schneiderlin to either Arsenal or Manchester United has opened the door to Song’s Southampton move, and once that is set in stone the club which finished 7th in the EPL this past season will be looking to Song as a midfield replacement.

Europa League football awaits Southampton in the new campaign, and strengthening their squad is a priority in the off season.

With a year left on his contract with the La Liga champs, the 27-year-old would do well to consider a move away from the Nou Camp, as a contract extension is probably not on the cards, but Barca are only expected to listen to an offer from Southampton if it is around the $12.2million mark.

Song spent last season at West Ham on loan from Barca, where he recorded 31 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, and was previously a Premier League stalwart, having played at Arsenal for seven years between 2005 and 2012.
