Kevin Anderson Through To French Open Third Round

Kevin Anderson Through To French Open Third Round

South African professional tennis player Kevin Anderson defeated his Taiwanese opponent Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round of French Open action on Thursday night to progress to the third round of the competition.

Rendy, as Lu is affectionately known, tested the composure of the South African who is seeded 15th at Roland Garros this year, taking the first set 7-5 to surprise the favourite and ensure that he came into the second set with a fresh determination to secure his spot in the next round.

This new approach paid off, as he went on to win the second set 6-4. That score would become a repetitive theme in the remainder of the encounter, with Anderson breaking Lu in each set to make sure of the match, winning 6-4 in the third and fourth sets.

Having defeated American Tim Smyczek in straight sets in the first round, Anderson confidently continued on to the third round with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lu, coming from a set down to deliver a quality performance in the rest of the match to make sure of the win.

The 29-year-old South African talent achieved a career-high ranking of world no. 15 in January this year, and as he moves into the third round at Roland Garros he must be wondering if his form will allow him to make an impact on this tournament, and his world ranking.
