Didier Drogba Plays Final Match For Chelsea

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba played his last ever match for the Blues as they defeated Sunderland 3-1 in the last English Premier League match of the season.

The London side celebrated winning the Premier League title, with striker Drogba captaining the team as a sign of the club’s respect and love for the player.

Sunderland took the lead through Steven Fletcher, before Diego Costa’s penalty levelled matters. Loic Remy then scored two goals to secure a final victory for the home side.

Drogba ended his final encounter with the Blues following an injury, but in the ultimate tribute and show of respect for the former Cote D’Ivoire skipper, a selection of his team-mates picked him up and carried him off the field, as he exited the EPL pitch for the very last time.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website before the match, the Ivorian striker revealed that he would leave the club in the transfer window, in order to ensure more game time, but he also mentioned his ambition to return to Chelsea in some capacity in future.

“In order to play more football I feel I need to go to another club. I want to play for at least one more season,” he said to the Chelsea site.

“All the fans know my love for Chelsea and I hope to be back here in the future in another role,” he added.

“This group of players gave me the best present. I came back and have won the league and today is a big celebration. We deserve it,” he concluded.

Drogba ends his second stint at Chelsea with total figures of 164 goals in 381 appearances.
