Algeria Set To Clash With Cote D’Ivoire In October

Algeria and Cote D’Ivoire will face each other in an international friendly football match in October during the FIFA window.

The occasion sets up an enticing encounter between the two best national teams in Africa, according to the latest FIFA ranking that was released this past week.

Algeria remains Africa’s best placed national team, as the Fennec Foxes find themselves in 2oth place overall. The Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire place in 23rd spot, making the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions the second best side on the continent.

The friendly match will take place at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, according to French-language website Le Buteur.

The fixture will be a repeat of the 2015 Nations Cup quarter-final, which ended 3-1 in favour of Herve Renard’s men.

Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff recently revealed in a press conference that he wanted to use the October period to play matches against some of Africa’s best, and the AFCON champions certainly fit the bill.

The Algerians are likely to play a second friendly during that window, with Nigeria and Senegal suggested as potential candidates.

Both Algeria and Cote D’Ivoire will use the friendly match to prepare for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the end of the year.
