Didier Drogba Goal Pushes Chelsea Closer To EPL Title

Didier Drogba was on target against Leicester City on Wednesday night to help his side to a 3-1 victory over the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, pushing them closer to the English Premier League crown.

A goal from Marc Albrighton gave the home side the lead, which they took into half time. Chelsea reacted well in the second half, equalising thanks to a goal from the former Ivorian international.

The 48th minute goal was Drogba’s third Premier League goal of the current season in his sixth start. Captain John Terry scored in the 79th minute to give Chelsea the lead, before Ramires was on hand to complete the 3-1 triumph seven minutes the end of the encounter.

Drogba had not scored since his goal against Newcastle on December 6, but he has not enjoyed as much playing time as many of his team-mates. Leicester provided a chance for Drogba to place in the starting eleven due to injuries suffered by Loic Remy and Diego Costa, who have featured more often than the veteran striker.

The 37-year-old continues to prove his worth to coach Jose Mourinho, and the Blues are now a win away from lifting the EPL title, which means that a victory in their next match against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday will guarantee the league crown, thanks to a current 13-point over Arsenal and Manchester City.

This would be a fourth Premier League title for Drogba, who has been a top performer for Chelsea during his time at the club, inspiring many African football fans to support the London-based Blues.

He was a hero for the Cote D’Ivoire national team before retiring last year, scoring 65 goals in 104 appearances, but unfortunately did not win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during his 12 year career with the Elephants.
