Tech For Players: Why Andre Iguodala And Steph Curry Are Investing

The first Player’s Technology Summit, organized by Golden State Warriors basketball stars Steph Curry and Andre Iguodala, was held this week at Bloomberg Technology’s office in San Francisco.

Its purpose was to encourage athletes to think about their future after they retire from basketball — something that Curry and Iguodala have been doing for a while.

“We’re trying to create a nice opportunity and environment where we can bridge the gap between sports and tech, and (use) all the resources we have playing right in Silicon Valley’s backyard,” Curry told Cory Johnson on Bloomberg TV. “There is more to us than just wearing the jersey.”

Andre Iguodala, a veritable “NBA ambassador to Silicon Valley,” has been making inroads in the tech hub for a while now.

His idea to bring NBA players into the tech community to plant seeds for their future, post-basketball lives has taken off. Iguodala solicited assistance from teammate Stephen Curry.

The summit’s purpose is to “bring together top leaders in the technology, venture capital and sports communities to exchange ideas and share expertise in an educational and empowering forum.”

“Whether you’re thinking about your first move into entrepreneurship or investing, or perhaps already a veteran in the space, it’s about surrounding yourself with the right team and putting in the work to always be improving as a professional,” Curry said.

Iguodala and Curry have done more than just get their feet wet. According to Bloomberg, the players are involved with the following tech-based endeavors:

Iguodala’s portfolio

  • TruMid
  • Thrive Global
  • Casper, Walker & Company
  • Hingeto
  • The Players Tribune

Curry’s portfolio

  • Co-founder at Slyce, a “marketing automation startup”
  • Investor in Pinterest and other mobile app companies
  • Stephen Curry 30 Enterprises
