The airline has been on a rapid expansion mode as the country, whose economy is among the fasted growing on the continent, builds a massive airport to house the airline’s home base.

“In the last five years we’ve seen an average growth of 20 percent, with the numbers of passengers grew from 3 million to 6 million today. In our vision 2025, we forecast that number to grow to 18 million,” Tewolde Gebremariam, Ethiopian Airlines chief executive, told Bloomberg.

“Annual turnover is about $2.5 billion today. That’s going to grow to $10 billion by 2025.”

The airline, which was recently ranked as the sixth most dependable airlines in the world by CBS news, flies to more destinations in Africa than any other airline in the world and is Africa’s dominant airline in Asia, flying to 21 cities in the region including the Middle East and Gulf.
