Idris Elba
Elba’s mother is from Ghana and his father is from Sierra Leon. His parents moved to London after they met, which is where this Ghanaian gets his charming accent. Elba was on the award winning show “The Wire,” and appeared in the movies “Thor” and “Prometheus” alongside Charlize Theron.
In Ghana, Akosua Busia was a princess. In Hollywood, she’s an actor. Busia played Nettie, Celie’s sister in “The Color Purple.” She was born into a prominent family in Ghana. Akosua Busia’s father was the prime minister of Ghana from 1969 to 1972.
Nana Gbewonyo was born in Accra, Ghana but moved to California when he was 3. Gbewonyo’s biggest role was in “Coach Carter.” He starred alongside Samuel Jackson.
Boris Kodjoe is known for the “Resident Evil” franchise. His father was a Ghanaian physician and his mother, a German psychologist. He was named after the Russian poet Boris Pasternak. Kodjoe’s full name is Boris Frederic Cecil Tay-Natey Ofuatey-Kodjoe. Tay-Natey means “first born child” in Ghanaian.
Freema Agyemang stars in the hit series “Doctor Who” and she has also appeared on “Law & Order: U.K.” and “The Carrie Diaries.” Her father is Ghanaian and her mother is Iranian.
Senyo Amoaku was born and raised in Ohio but his parents are Ghanaian. Amoaku recently appeared in “The Expendables” alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Mensah was born in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana but spent his childhood in the U.K. Mensah is best known for his role in the show “Spartacus” as well as the movie “Avatar,” “The Incredible Hulk” and “300.”
Djansi is a Ghanaian filmmaker who began her career in the Ghana film industry and eventually founded the Los Angeles-based production company, Turning Point Pictures. Djansi is known for her films “Ties that Bind” and “And Then There Was You.”
Boakye’s family is originally from Ghana but he was born in America. Boakye is known for his role as Manny in the Tyler Perry movie, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” and his voiceover work on “The Looney Tunes Show.”
Kwame Boateng’s family is originally from Ghana. Boateng is the brother of Kwesi Boakye. The young star began modeling and acting at just 9 years old and has since appeared in “The Onion Movie,” “Workaholics,” and “The Office” to name a few.
Kofi Siriboe is the third in the Kwesi-Kwame-Kofi-take-Hollywood-by-storm family. The three brothers are known as the K-3. Siriboe is best known for his role as Javy Hall in the Fred Durst film, “The Longshots” starring Ice Cube.
Sam Sarpong’s father is a Ghanain native. Sam was born in London and raised in Los Angeles, California. He co-hosted the show “Yo Momma” on MTV and has been the host of the BET Awards pre-show, “All Access,” for several years.
