A delegation from the Commonwealth Games Federation is expected in Durban in May for the assessment phase of the city’s bid to host the games in 2022.

Speaking at a press conference at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, chairman of the bid committee, Mark Alexander, said the team was coming to conduct a due diligence analysis based on the bid documents submitted.

Alexander last week travelled to the federation’s headquarters in London to formally lodge Durban’s bid.

Despite being the only bidders, with Edmonton in Canada having pulled out, the final decision will be put to a vote in September.
