Mohammad Irfan, Rahat Ali and Wahab Riaz picked up three wickets apiece as Pakistan beat South Africa by 29 runs with the Duckworth/Lewis method at Eden Park in Auckland in a Pool B Cricket World Cup match.

South Africa, who had won the toss and elected to bowl first, bowled Pakistan out for 222 after two rain interruptions had reduced the match to 47 overs per side.

South Africa were set a revised target of 232 in 47 overs but were bowled out for 202 in 33.3 overs with AB de Villiers trying valiantly to hold his team together by scoring 77 off 58 balls.

Misbah-ul-Haq top-scored for Pakistan with his fourth half century of the tournament, facing 86 deliveries and striking four boundaries in his 56.

Dale Steyn finished with figures of 10-3-30-3 and received support from Morne Morkel (2-25) and Kyle Abbott (2-45) but the three left-arm quicks were just too good for the Proteas with wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed claiming six catches behind the stumps to earn the man of the man award along with his 49 at the top of the order.

Quinton de Kock was first to go, edging Irfan (8-0-52-3) to Sarfraz behind the stumps for a duck. Hashim Amla (38) and Faf du Plessis (27) then added 66 in just 8.1 overs with Amla being extremely aggressive by striking nine boundaries off just 27 balls.
