Why South Africa’s Mining Sector Is Experiencing A Decline

Being that certainty and positive progression of business is a driver of the mining sector, it’s no surprise that things are declining in South Africa. Continuous strikes throughout last year and spikes in costs of energy have placed hurdles on the ground for those looking to invest in the sector.

According to CCTV Africa, South Africa’s power supply commission, ESKOM, is putting limitations on energy cuts to help maintain power grid and mining slips.

“They will be looking for certainty and predictability — and a real sense that the government is committed to creating the right investment climate for mining in this country,” Peter Leon, a partner at African law firm Webber Wentzel told CCTV Africa.
