Equatorial Guinea, a tiny oil rich country with a checkered past, has established itself as one of Africa top investment destinations by using its oil discovery to fuel an infrastructure boom across the nation of slightly over one million people.

The country, which has some questionable human rights and public health records, got a chance to show case its infrastructure growth during the ongoing African Cup of Nations finals.

While Equatorial Guinea held some matches during the jointly-hosted 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with Gabon, it was still chosen by the top African soccer body, CAF, to provide an emergency solution for this year’s edition, after Morocco wanted the tournament postponed over the Ebola crisis in west Africa
