AFCON 2015: Baptism Of Fire For Avram Grant As New Ghana Coach

From Ghana Soccer

Ex-Chelsea coach Avram Grant could not have asked for a better managerial career start with Ghana as he will play his first officials matches for the Black Stars in the Group of Death at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Not many managers will encounter in a career what the Israeli coach will experience in his start of a new job in another country where a struggling giants is place in the toughest group of a competition.

Smarting from a shambolic showing at the World Cup, suspension of recalcitrant players, a World Cup commission investigating the side, difficult time winning over the fans, as well as the pain playing in a difficult qualifiers will surely marked an eventful time for the in-coming coach.

As if that was not enough Ghana were drawn together with Algeria, Senegal and South Africa in Group C of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place in Jan. 17 to Feb. 8.

All four teams are considered contenders to win the cup.

Algeria, ranked No. 18 in the latest FIFA world rankings, is currently the highest-ranked team in Africa.

Ghana has consistently been one of the strongest teams on the continent, while South Africa had a strong qualifying campaign.

Senegal, which features players like Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse and Southampton’s Sadio Mane, is also projected to be one of the tournament’s best teams.

It will be quite a baptism of fire for Avram Grant the newly-appointed coach of Ghana — who have flattered to deceive on several occasions at the finals since they were crowned champions for the fourth time in 1982.

Grant will have to figure out his plans on how to carefully negotiate the group to appease the fans of Ghana.
