Tunisia Advances To AFCON Finals Following Draw With Botswana

Tunisia coach George Leekens says he is happy to have qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations even if their performance against Botswana was not great. The Carthage Eagles drew 0-0 with Botswana at the National Stadium in Gaborone on Friday night to end top of their group with 11 points.

Leekens had told the media before the game that they would vie for all three points even though they just needed a point.

The game plan, however, showed that they chose to be cautious and not do any unnecessary attacking. The tie was evenly balanced with Tunisia showing maturity in sticking to their tactics.

Tunisia did test Botswana keeper Kabelo Dambe near the end when he had to make double saves in what could have been a big blow for the hosts.

“My boys did what they had to do and I am happy we qualified. The performance was not that important,” Leekens said immediately after the game.

For Botswana it was merely pride at stake as they picked up their very first point during the Qualifiers.
