Child Soldier-Turned-Rapper Talks Reconciliation In Latest Album

Rapper, activist and actor Emmanuel Jal — a former child soldier from South Sudan – talked about his collaboration with Nile Rodgers on his new single, “My Power'”and the influences on his song writing, according to an AP video.

Rodgers is a Grammy-award winning U.S. musician, producer, composer, arranger, and guitarist. He is lead guitarist and co-founding member of the band Chic.

Jal fought as a child soldier in Ethiopia and South Sudan, and now he tries to educate others on the importance of telling kids they’re important. He describes his Twitter site is a battlefield, according to AP.

Jal is putting his painful experiences as a child soldier in South Sudan to positive use, AP reports. His latest album, “The Key,” not only carries a message of peace and
reconciliation, but shines a light on children’s rights.

A human rights activist, Jal has spoken before the U.N., U.S. Congress and several governments. He said it was an honor to speak before world leaders and politicians, but his most important audiences have been children.
