Young Entrepreneurs Conquer Online Gifting In Kenya

The short term goals for Purpink’s expansion include taking over East Africa, and later the entire continent. Staying in Africa works in the company’s favor as the inter-workings of online orders is something that the founders have worked hard at researching. Emerging out of its infancy, the company is now focused on serving Kenya’s corporate business market.

“We just started something that [would] give us money to have fun and go out on campus. It was just as simple as that,”Aryton Bett, Purpink co-founder told CNBC Africa about why he and business partner Diana Martha Mwaniki started the online gift business.

Both second year students at the time, Bett said the pair was strapped for cash.  However, at this point they’ve mastered scouting and supplying products. One of the biggest startup hurdles Bett revealed was earning confidence, “a lot of big suppliers and a lot of big companies were not really ready to get on our backs and support us.”
