Zambia’s Patriotic Front Members Linked Oil Corruption?

Written by Charles Sakala | From Zambia Reports

An investigation has revealed that there is a corruption syndicate in the oil transportation sector where some senior government and Patriotic Front (PF) members are favouring foreign oil transporters to disadvantage Zambian businesses.

According to a probe, there has been selective application of the law and regulations regarding oil transportation involving local and foreign firms.

Corruption and various forms of wrong-doing have continued to reign supreme in the PF government in different sectors of the economy and the relevant public wings mandated to probe and enforce the law have been haunted by massive political interference from doing their work.

The probe has revealed that foreign transporters were being treated using a different set of laws and regulations and this was pushing local firms participating in the oil transportation business profitably.

But energy experts have said any minor disturbances in the transportation of oil to Zambia could have major negative effects such as stability of supply and price of fuel.

In the latest expose involving oil transporters, government officials, PF members and Michael Sata’s relatives are influencing the ERB to favor foreign oil transporters in the acquisition of operating licences and in other operations.

Zambia’s Mines and Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma, President Michael Sata’s nephew Anthony Kasolo and some individuals in the ERB are among the people linked to the oil transportation scandal.
