South African Comedian Trevor Noah Joins Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show With Jon Stewart’

South Africa’s top comedian Trevor Noah have been tapped to join Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, the cable network’s late-night satirical news show. Named one of “Thirteen African Celebrities To Watch In 2013” by Forbes, Noah will join the Emmy and Peabody award-winning daily show starting in December as a contributor.

Confirming the announcement of his new gig via Twitter, Noah tweeted, “thank you so much for all your love and support. Being a part of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is such an honour. I can’t wait to start!”

Noah, who is currently on the cover of GQ South Africa has been a popular host for numerous television shows in South Africa, including the South African Comedy Festival and two seasons of his own late-night talker. A finalist for Personality of the Year at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards, Noah had his U.S. television debut on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and has also appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman,” becoming the first South African stand-up comedian to appear on either late night shows. Boasting an impressive Twitter following of 1.5 million, the highest of any comedian from Africa, Noah’s Showtime comedy special, “Trevor Noah: African American” premiered in the U.S. in 2013.
