It’s kind of a morbid concept – make a list of things that you should do before you kick the bucket. But morbid or not, a bucket list basically just means that you are going to do some seriously awesome stuff in your lifetime. Here are ten ideas that you should be adding to your bucket list ASAP, and might as well get straight on accomplishing tomorrow.
Travel to a foreign country alone
Traveling is incredible, and having someone to share it with is a truly rewarding experience. But take the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and travel somewhere in the world by yourself – you may just be surprised what you find out.
See the Northern Lights
Have you seen pictures of the Northern Lights? It’s breathtaking, even through a computer screen. Imagine seeing that in person – it’s potentially the coolest natural wonder there is. Make it happen, and you won’t regret it.
Try bungee jumping/skydiving/paragliding/etc. at LEAST once
It’s a classic for a reason – adrenaline activities are a common appearance on many bucket lists, as they should be. Though it might not be your favorite thing, pushing yourself to the limit and doing something absolutely insane is always rewarding. Plus, it’s fun as hell.
Hit one of the craziest festivals in the world
Running with the bulls in Spain, participating in the nation-wide water fight in Thailand, throwing colors at Holi in India – any and all of these incredible festivals should be on your bucket list, if only for the opportunity to experience another culture’s celebrations and traditions. Plus, how fun do they all sound?!
Climb a mountain
We’re not talking Mount Everest here, but you should absolutely experience the sensation of achieving an impressive summit at some point. The views are spectacular, but the accomplishment and pride you’ll feel for your achievement tops everything.
Write a book
You don’t need a publisher, you don’t even need anybody to read it. It’s easier than ever to write your own book and self-publish if that’s what you want. Even if it’s for your eyes only, this type of accomplishment will stay with you always. Whether it’s an autobiography or an in-depth discussion of the mating rituals of the tsetse fly (seriously, I don’t know your interests), it’ll be something that you can always hold on to.
Sing karaoke
This is a pretty easy one, so why not? You don’t need to be a good singer, but belting out some classics in front of friends and strangers is a different kind of rush that you should experience in your lifetime. Plus, you never know who will be watching – maybe you’ll get a record deal out of it.
Get up close and personal with animals that you’re terrified of
Got a problem with sharks? Strap on a scuba tank and feed them 131 feet under the water. Terrified of snakes? Plop one around your neck and take a photo. It’ll be scary, but you’ll be fine, and the feeling of conquering fears can’t be beat.
Swim naked
If you haven’t swum naked before, you are seriously missing out. It’s super freeing, and it’s about the easiest thing you can do on here. You don’t even need a swimsuit. Just find a body of water, strip down, and jump in. A word of caution for those that can’t swim – maybe find some shallow water and just do some wading instead. Although learning to swim could totally be on your bucket list as well…
Fly a plane
Or a helicopter. Or a jet. Or really anything that flies through the air. But not only is this awesome for the sheer experience of witnessing and contributing to human flight, it’ll also come in handy if you ever find yourself in a “Snakes on a Plane” type of situation. Prepare for the worst, and you’ll always be ready.
