Cape Verde Bans Entry Of Non-Residents Entering From Senegal

From Asemana

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Cristina Fontes Lima announced this Monday, September 1, that, as of today, non-resident foreigners who have visited Senegal in the past 30 days will be prohibited from entering Cape Verdean territory via sea or air. Fontes explained that the measure comes following confirmation of the first case of Ebola in Senegal, Cape Verde’s nearest neighbor.

“The measure is a precautionary one on the part of the government, considering the evolution of the health risks at the moment, resulting in the decision to apply resolution nº 66/2014 of August 20, which prohibits the entry of non-resident foreign citizens who have been in the affected countries over the past 30 days in Cape Verde,” explained Cristina Fontes Lima.

Even so, regular flights between Praia and Dakar will continue operating, but with limitations in terms of ground handling services, in accordance with the directives issues by health authorities.

The measure also states that non-resident foreign crew members on regular flights and vessels who have been in Senegal in the past 30 days may not enter Cape Verdean territory.
