Ugandans To Be Hit With Government Imposed Kerosene Tax

According to CCTV Africa, 95 percent of people living in Uganda depend on either kerosene or wood fuel. Many in rural areas go without electricity and instead use kerosene lamps to provide lighting for everyday activities including the sale of goods at night, the report said. Though the government said that kerosene tax hikes won’t be substantial, the poor are expected to be impacted most.

“If government increases taxes on paraffin, we are not going be able to afford to cook and to light our house,” Jesca Kayondo, one Kampa local said.
