Social Media Week (SMW) Johannesburg managing director, Sherry Bitting, spoke with AFKInsider about putting her background in PR and marketing to the test to create this event. Through Digisense, she and a team applied and earned the license to organize SMW Johannesburg, which will take place September 22-26. In part two of the interview she expands on the global theme and varying conversations that take place within different SMW host cities.

“The global theme is ‘The Future of Now: Always on, Always Connected,'” Bitting said. “So we’re taking on the global theme, but we are adding kind of a South African twist to it by looking at how our people in South Africa are connected. People are connected to their mobile phones much more so than they are to their laptops and desktops as you might find here [in the U.S.].”
