Pro-Palestinian lobby group Boycott, Divestment Sanctions in South Africa (BDS South Africa),  held a national day of protest against retailer Woolworths on Saturday.

More than 40 actions were held countrywide, with one in Johannesburg turning rowdy.

The group wants the retailer to stop sourcing products from Israel.

The recent seven week conflict has claimed the lives of more than two thousand Palestinians and 70 Israelis.

BDS South Africa accuses Woolworths of acting recklessly and says the retailer is not interested in aligning itself with human rights and ethical and responsible business practices by continuing to import products from Israeli companies.
