Last week U.S. President Barrack Obama hosted the first U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington D.C as the leaders of the free world tried to fight the back China’s growing influence on the continent. Analyst told Aljazeera that the summit was a good start but not enough to bridge the gap between U.S. and China’s Trade in Africa.

Since the year 2000 China has held five meetings with African leaders and that has reflected directly in the trade numbers. In just two year imports and exports between Africa and China have jumped from just $127 billion to nearly $200billion, while that if the U.S.-Africa has dropped from $113 billion to slightly below $100 billion.

“We don’t look to Africa simply for its natural resources. We recognize Africa for its greatest resource, which is its people and its talents and their potential,” Obama told African leaders at the summit.
